Expert session on “Advancing educators: Flipped learning strategies and AI tools”…

Mangaluru: An expert session was organized by the Dept. of Electronics & Communication Engineering  of Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management on 28 th March 2024.
Dr Chaminda Thushara Hewage, Associate Dean of Research and Reader of Data Security, Cardiff Metropolitan University, United Kingdom and Dr Angesh Anupam, HoD, Cardiff School of Technologies, United Kingdom along with Dr A M Khan, Professor, Dept of Electronics, Mangalore University graced the occasion.

Dr. Anush Bekal, Head, Dept. of Electronics & Communication Engineering welcomed the gathering and wished the students and faculty members to gain insight into effective strategies in teaching-learning practices and employ the AI tools ethically and responsibly so that the educators can create a more effective, engaging and interactive learning environment.

Dr. Sidramappa Injaganeri, Principal encouraged the students and faculty members to make use of the opportunity and advance in their future careers. Dr SARATHI MANJAPPA, Director of Research & President- Sahyadri – Institutions Innovation Council (IIC) inspired the gathering to utilize this collaborative learning platform to facilitate knowledge sharing and collaborative problem-solving. Dr. Chandana B R, Faculty Coordinator, Dept . of Electronics, introduced the guest to the gathering and gave an overview of the program.

The talk constituted flipped learning strategies, usage of AI tools for effective teaching-learning practices, Timechat, Synthetic Data Analysis, and Research in the Indian and UK contexts. Dr. A M Khan, Professor, Dept. of Electronics, Mangalore University briefed on Karnataka and Wales partnership programme with Mangalore University being selected as one of the universities to collaborate and to connect with the Cardiff Metropolitan University.

He also extended the support to include Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management to be an integral part of the cluster under the REACHED (Responsible AI cluster for higher education in India) partnership programme. The partnership programme would encourage the student community, research scholars and faculty to have joint collaborations, research support, research grants and funding, to conduct symposiums, webinars and workshops jointly, and conferences that are entitled under the flagship of the REACHED partnership programme

The talk was attended by the faculty and student members of the ECE and AI department. Ms. Mehnaz Fathima C, Assistant Professor, Dept of ECE, coordinated the event and proposed the vote of thanks.
