Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management – Inauguration of “Karnataka VLSI Roadshow”…

Mangaluru: In a groundbreaking endeavor that redefines the parameters of technological exploration, the Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering (ECE) at Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management proudly hosted the inaugural “Karnataka VLSI Roadshow”.

This event garnered significant attention for its gathering of luminaries in VLSI technology. Renowned figures such as Mr. Kunal Ghosh and Ms. Anagha Ghosh from vlsisystemdesign.com, along with Mr. Montu Makadia from Semiconductor Fabless Accelerator Lab (SFAL), and Dr. Anush Bekal, Head of the ECE Department, graced the occasion.

Attendees were immersed in a comprehensive exploration of Semiconductor Application-Specific Integrated Circuits (ASIC) Design and RISC-V development kits, led by Mr. Kunal Ghosh and his team. The sessions delved into the intricacies of VLSI design, covering both front-end and back-end processes.

The workshop commenced with a focus on defining specifications crucial for microprocessor design, setting the foundation for subsequent design stages. Participants were then guided through the RTL to GDS conversion process.

Additionally, the event featured online sessions by industry experts Mr. Mayank Kabra from ETH Zürich and Dr. Skandha Deepsita S from Lemurian Labs, providing further insights into specific VLSI design aspects. Mr. Kabra elaborated on Embedded C intricacies, offering practical examples, while Dr. Skandha Deepsita S concentrated on synthesis techniques, bridging theory with practical implementation.

A notable highlight was the hands-on exercises where students engaged in onboard testing and verification using the VSD-Squadron mini board, guided by Mr. Ghosh and his team. This provided attendees with invaluable firsthand experience in circuit testing and verification.

Mr. Montu Makadia shed light on Semiconductor Fabless Accelerator Lab (SFAL) and its ongoing projects, offering students insights into innovative endeavors shaping the VLSI landscape.

The success of the “Karnataka VLSI Roadshow” underscored Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management’s dedication to fostering innovation. It also emphasized the crucial role played by industry leaders such as VLSI System Design, Semiconductor Fabless Accelerator Lab (SFAL), and the Karnataka Digital Economy Mission (KDEM) in driving technological progress and nurturing talent within Mangaluru. The coordination of the event was led by faculty members Mr. Praveen Kumar, Ms. Mehnaz, Ms. Megha, and the student team headed by Ms. Maansi Mutthamma.
