Mangaluru: Prof. Prasad Chandran N., faculty member of Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management, has been awarded the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Engineering by Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belagavi.
He successfully defended his Ph.D. thesis titled “Modeling and Optimization of Eco-Friendly Molding Materials for Sand Casting Process Using Statistical and Soft Computing Tools” on November 21, 2025, under the guidance of Dr. Manjunath Patel G. C.
Marking a notable academic milestone, Prof. Prasad Chandran N. is the first candidate from Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management to obtain all three degrees—B.E., M.Tech., and Ph.D.—in Mechanical Engineering from the same institution. He has been associated with Sahyadri Institute for the past 17 years, initially as a student and later as a faculty member, serving the institution since 2008.
He completed his B.E. in Mechanical Engineering in 2011 and M.Tech. in Machine Design in 2014. He registered for the Ph.D. programme at VTU, Belagavi, in 2017, culminating in this significant academic achievement.
Prof. Prasad Chandran N. is the son of Sri Narayanan and Smt. Karthyani. He is married to Megha, and the couple has a daughter, Agamya M. Prasad.
