Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management-Energy Conservation Week & Energy Conservation Day 2024…
Mangaluru: The Department of Information Science & Engineering and CSE (Data Science) at Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management marked Energy Conservation Week and Energy Conservation Day 2024 with an event held on January 13, 2025, in collaboration with the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) and Karnataka Renewable Energy Development Limited (KREDL).
The program was inaugurated by Dr. Rithesh Pakkala P., Head of the ISE and CSE (DS) departments, who welcomed the gathering. Shri K. P. Rudrappaiah, Managing Director of KREDL, delivered the keynote address, stressing the importance of energy conservation in everyday life. He discussed Karnataka’s Energy Conservation and Energy Efficiency Policy (2022-2027) and highlighted the role of KREDL in promoting renewable energy. Emphasizing the motto, “One unit of energy conserved equals two units of energy generated,” he underscored the value of sustainable energy practices.
The winners of a quiz competition held on January 8, 2025, were felicitated by Shri K. P. Rudrappaiah, who presented them with cash prizes. Dr. Manjappa Sarathi, Director of R&D at Sahyadri College, lauded the department’s efforts in organizing government-sponsored initiatives and emphasized the importance of adopting renewable energy sources.
Dr. M. Krishna Kumar, Co-founder and COO of Hydgen, addressed the audience on topics such as climate change, decarbonization technologies, advancements in green hydrogen, and energy transition strategies. Dr. Karthik elaborated on the pillars of energy transition, the production methods of hydrogen, and the critical role of electrolyzers in building a hydrogen economy.
The program witnessed active participation from teaching and non-teaching staff, as well as students of the ISE and CSE (DS) departments.
Walkathon for Awareness
A Walkathon was inaugurated by Dr. S. S. Injaganeri, Principal of the college, along with Dr. Manjappa Sarathi, Dr. Sudheer Shetty (Vice Principal), and Dr. Srinath S., Professor and COO of Sahyadri College. Over 200 students took part, accompanied by faculty members and HODs of various departments.
During the walkathon, participants visited more than 200 households in the Adyar area, creating awareness about renewable energy, energy conservation techniques, and sustainable living practices.
The event was coordinated by Mrs. Prajna U. R., Assistant Professor, Department of Information Science & Engineering. The initiative showcased Sahyadri College’s commitment to fostering sustainable practices and energy-efficient solutions.
