Mangaluru: The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning), Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management, Mangaluru, organized the environmental initiative “Vana Jeevana Yajna-2025” on July 19 at Shree Shankara Dhyana Mandir, Posadigumpe, Kasaragod, in collaboration with the Mandir management.
The programme commenced with an inaugural address by Mr. Shankar Rao Kakve, President of Shree Shankara Dhyana Mandir, who welcomed the participants and emphasized the importance of environmental consciousness.
As part of the event, over 100 saplings of native and medicinal tree species including Aragvadha, Indian Rosewood, Gooseberry, Guava, and Indian Kino Tree were planted by the students, with saplings provided by the Kerala Forest Department under the banner of “Greener Tomorrow.” Students also undertook the development of water harvesting trenches and conducted a cleanliness drive in and around Posadigumpe hill, a scenic location situated at an altitude of 1060 feet (approx. 323 meters) above sea level.
Local community members, including Mr. Sathya Praksha E K, Mr. Keshava Prasad Edakkana, and their families, actively supported and guided the students during the initiative. The event was coordinated by Prof. Ganaraj K from the Department of CSE (AI&ML).
The day concluded with an educational visit to the nearby Shiriya Dam, where students gained insights into water conservation and the geographical importance of the region. The initiative served as a practical learning experience, instilling in students a sense of environmental stewardship and awareness about sustainable water management.
