Sahyadri Central Library Marks National Librarians’ Day…

Mangaluru: Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management, Mangaluru, observed National Librarians’ Day with a special program commemorating the birth anniversary of Dr. S.R. Ranganathan, regarded as the father of Library Science in India. The event highlighted the crucial role of libraries as knowledge hubs and the need for effective use of both print and digital resources in academics and research.
The program began with a lamp-lighting ceremony in the presence of dignitaries including Dr. Rekha D. Pai, Chief Librarian and Associate Professor, Department of Library & Information Sciences, MIT, MAHE, Manipal; Dr. S.S. Injaganeri, Principal; Sri. Jagannath Chowta, Trustee, Bhandary Foundation; and Dr. Bharathi K, Librarian. Faculty members, staff, and students were also present on the occasion.
Delivering the keynote address, Dr. Rekha D. Pai revisited the timeless Five Laws of Library Science propounded by Dr. Ranganathan and emphasized their relevance in the digital age. She spoke on the transformation of libraries with e-resources and urged students and faculty to maximize the potential of online platforms for learning and research.
Trustee Sri. Jagannath Chowta appreciated the dedicated efforts of librarians and stressed the importance of resource utilization to foster academic excellence. Principal Dr. S.S. Injaganeri, in his presidential remarks, commended the library team for nurturing information literacy and adapting to changing educational needs, while reiterating the role of libraries as innovation hubs.
The event also recognized students and staff who made exemplary use of library resources. The celebration reinforced Sahyadri’s commitment to fostering a culture of research, learning, and innovation, while inspiring the academic community to embrace the library as a vibrant center of knowledge and lifelong learning.
